Signet Ring Carving Workshop:

Discover the art of creating your own signet ring in this hands-on workshop with master jewellers Danila Tarcinale and Russell Lownsbrough.

Signet rings are timeless pieces that carry both personal and historical significance, and in this workshop, you’ll learn how to bring your own design to life.

Guided by Danila and Russell, you’ll carve your ring in wax, exploring the creative possibilities of this classic form, before finishing it in the metal of your choice. Whether you’re drawn to bold, modern designs or traditional engraved motifs, this workshop will give you the skills and confidence to create a truly unique piece.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to shape, size, and hollow a wax tube to form the base of a signet ring.

  • Techniques for adding your own style and character to the ring design.

  • An introduction to finishing options for transforming your wax carving into a polished metal ring.

About Signet Rings:

Signet rings have a rich history, dating back thousands of years. Originally used as personal seals to mark documents and signify authority, they were worn by rulers, aristocrats, and eventually by people from all walks of life. Traditionally, the ring’s face was kept plain to allow for engraving, while the shoulders, shank, and overall shape offered endless opportunities for personal expression. The cost of this course includes wax materials but not casting fees. 

WHAT TO BRING:

For safety reasons, during each class, you are required to wear appropriate footwear, we request that no open toed shoes are worn within Workshop 925. Long hair should also be tied back when working with the equipment. You may also wish to bring a notebook. We have handouts for many demonstrations, but there are always many tips and tricks given verbally by the tutor, which some might like to keep note of.
