WHAT DOES THE DAY INVOLVE?

Spend a day at the workbench learning the traditional skills used to create a handcrafted sea glass set sterling silver ring.

Designed with beginners in mind, this workshop offers a relaxed and supportive introduction to silversmithing. You'll be guided through each step of the process, from sizing and shaping the silver to soldering, texturing, polishing, and finishing your ring.

Throughout the day, you'll gain hands on experience with professional jewellery making tools and techniques while creating a piece that is uniquely your own. Whether you're looking to try a new craft, enjoy a new experience or wish to explore the world of jewellery making, this workshop provides the perfect opportunity to learn new skills and get started working with silver.

All materials are included, and there will be plenty of guidance along the way. By the end of the workshop, you'll have completed a sterling silver ring ready to wear and a solid foundation in the basic principles of silversmithing.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

None, all abilities are welcomed. We support you throughout the session and provide demonstrations to show you the techniques and steps needed to create your project.

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

  • All tools and consumables are supplied

YOU WILL BE PROVIDED WITH:

  • 2xm x 2cm 0.5mm silver sheet
  • Up to 10cm bezel strip 5mm high
  • One piece of sea glass - you are welcome to bring along your own sea glass, Some glass might not be suitable due to size or shape, so please be aware if you do bring along your own glass, it might not be suitable for the setting technique but we will advise you on the day
  • 2mm silver round wire 7.5cm Length

WHAT TO BRING:

For safety reasons, during each class, you are required to wear appropriate footwear, we request that no open toed shoes are worn within Workshop 925. We also suggest wearing old clothes.

Long hair should also be tied back when working with the equipment. You may also wish to bring a notebook. We have handouts for many demonstrations, but there are always many tips and tricks given verbally by the tutor, which some might like to keep note of.

We have plenty of tea and coffee supplies however please bring along some lunch. We have a fridge, microwave and kettle in the workshop.
