WHAT DOES THE DAY INVOLVE?
In this class we will be looking at methods for making both round and marquise shaped collets.
The ability to create collets from scratch to fit specific stones is a vital jewellery making skill. This course aims to increase both your ability and confidence in making collets to exact specifications and to a high level.
We will look at making both round and marquise shapes with and without the use of collet blocks. We will discuss the pros and cons of each method and when each is suitable. You will measure your stone and calculate the exact amount of metal needed to make a perfectly fitting collet before creating a template and forming the collet to the correct tolerances for setting.
We will be using traditional hand tools and techniques, improving your confidence and ability to work independently.
By the end of the course you will have two finished collets ready for setting. We will also discuss decorative cut outs and how these can affect setting and the ways in which these collets can be used in pendants rings and ear studs.
All materials and tools for the class will be provided on the day with the option to order specialist tools after the class if required.
